Ellenville Regional Hospital Expands Surgical Services for Local Community
New General Surgery Services Now Available Through Partnership with WMCHealth
ELLENVILLE, N.Y. — June 29, 2026 — Ellenville Regional Hospital, in collaboration with Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), is expanding access to outpatient surgical care for residents throughout southern Ulster County and neighboring communities. Beginning this month, patients will have greater access to surgical consultations and ambulatory (same day) surgical procedures close to home through a new general surgery partnership at Ellenville Regional Hospital.
The expansion reflects the shared commitment of Ellenville Regional Hospital and WMCHealth to improving healthcare access and enhancing ERH’s capacity to provide high quality care locally as appropriate.
“Expanding surgical services at Ellenville Regional Hospital is an important step in ensuring our community has greater access to high quality care close to home,” said Steve Kelley, CEO and President of Ellenville Regional Hospital. “Through our partnership with WMCHealth, patients can receive consultations and most outpatient surgical procedures right here in Ellenville while maintaining seamless access to advanced specialty care.”
Welcoming Dr. Jamal Mahdavian
As part of the expanded surgical services, Jamal Mahdavian, MD, a board-certified general and trauma surgeon with WMCHealth Physicians General Surgery, will begin seeing patients at Ellenville Regional Hospital. Dr. Mahdavian will provide surgical consultations and perform select surgical procedures, bringing expert surgical care directly to the local community.
“I am excited to bring surgical services directly to the Ellenville community,” said Jamal Mahdavian, MD. “Our goal is to make expert surgical care more accessible and convenient for local residents. Patients can receive consultations and many outpatient procedures close to home, while maintaining access to advanced surgical resources in Kingston whenever additional care is needed.”
Care Close to Home
The addition of ambulatory surgical services enhances Ellenville Regional Hospital’s ability to meet the healthcare needs of the community by providing more care locally.
Patients requiring more complex surgical procedures, advanced technology, or specialized services will have seamless access to partner facilities within the WMCHealth network, including HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston and other specialty centers as appropriate. This collaborative approach ensures patients receive the right level of care in the most appropriate setting while remaining connected to a comprehensive regional network of healthcare resources.
“This partnership strengthens the continuum of surgical care available to residents of Ulster County and the surrounding region,” said Ashima Butler, COO, Ellenville Regional Hospital. “By expanding access to ambulatory surgical services locally and connecting patients to advanced specialty care when needed, we are improving convenience, access and continuity of care for our community.”
Elissa Chessari, Executive Director of HealthAlliance Hospital, welcomed the expanded collaboration between the organizations.
“We are proud to partner with Ellenville Regional Hospital to improve access to surgical care across the region,” said Chessari. “This collaboration helps ensure patients can receive care close to home whenever appropriate while benefiting from the advanced services and specialty expertise available throughout the WMCHealth network.”
The enhanced ambulatory surgery program is part of Ellenville Regional Hospital’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to high quality healthcare services, strengthening local care delivery and ensuring residents can receive more of the care they need within their own community through strategic partnerships and regional collaboration.
