ERH award-winning Emergency Department: when every second counts

In an emergency situation, every second counts, and Ellenville Regional Hospital is proud of the shortest wait times in our emergency department.

Winning national recognition for our Emergency Department turnaround time

Ellenville Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) staff  understands how hard it is to wait for care, diagnosis and treatment of someone we love. We won a national award from Amerinet for our ED Turnaround Time in 2012 and another in 2010 from the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association. These awards represent how quickly we respond, how quickly we stabilize our patients and how quickly we get you on the road to treatment and recovery. We triage patients according to how sick they are, so the most acutely ill are always treated first.

Life-saving quality of patient care

The ED at Ellenville Regional Hospital has a national reputation for the quality of our treatment as well as the speed. (We won a HRSA award for Life-saving Patient Safety in 2010). Our emergency providers are trained experts, quick thinking and flexible. Less seriously ill patients are treated and then discharged home. More acutely ill patients are stabilized and then may be either placed on our Medical-Surgical unit or transferred to another hospital in the region that is most appropriate for the specific needs of the patient. Language is never a barrier as we can call on the Language Interpretation Service 24/7. Our Emergency Department staff is deeply committed to the work we do. Step into the waiting room and you’ll notice, as many people do, that it’s “so clean, so friendly, it doesn’t smell like a hospital,” “it’s not intimidating” and “they treat you like family.” We don’t want you to have to face an emergency, but we want to help you if you do.

AHA Lifeline® Silver Referring Quality Achievement

AHA Mission: Lifeline® Silver Referring Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks. We earned the award by meeting specific criteria and standards of performance for promptly diagnosing STEMI patients and transferring them to hospitals that provide emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries when needed.

Our average wait time is 10 minutes or less! Our target is to have all patients be seen by a provider within 18 minutes.

National Average ED wait is 55 minutes

Testimonial from Emergency Department Patient

Good morning, I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude for our Ellenville Hospital. I have lived in Napanoch all my life. My Grandmother (Eleanor Mekulik) was a head nurse over fifty years ago. My mother (Rose Mekulik) also worked in the dept. where they sterilize instruments for the ER and in the ER with Dr. Mcdonald. With the pandemic it’s been scary for everyone. (Patient) whom has asthma and was recently diagnosed with a blood clot in lung had difficulty breathing Tuesday night. (Patient) tested negative for the covid. I called ERH and spoke to Christine Cromwell. Christine's response was compassionate and reassuring. When we arrived, Mr. Benson listened and registered (Patient). (Patient) was taken in imminently. From that moment on everyone communicated with us. Sandy (Patient’s) nurse took the time to listen to (Patient’s) wife, and explain all details. I’m proud to say our Hospital is professional, caring , compassionate. Thank you, and your Doctors, Nurses, Support staff and other whom made our experience a little easier in a difficult time. Tuesday night your staff were my heroes we received good news about (Patient). Thank you , Cathy Mekulik
