Helping You Regain Function, Independence, and Confidence

Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing a chronic condition, or facing a recent surgery,

Ellenville Regional Hospital’s Outpatient Occupational Therapy Program is here to support your journey back to health. Our licensed therapists specialize in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation, working with individuals of all ages to restore function, improve quality of life, and promote independence in daily activities.
Following acute stroke treatment, patients can transition to our post-stroke rehabilitation program for continued recovery.

Conditions We Treat

We provide customized therapy for a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Traumatic injuries: wounds, fractures, burns, nerve damage, sprains, and amputations

  • Cumulative trauma disorders: carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, tennis elbow

  • Chronic conditions: arthritis, neurological disorders, and post-stroke paralysis

  • Congenital or acquired deformities

  • Sports injuries and post-operative recovery

Upper extremity issues can lead to pain, numbness, weakness, swelling, or loss of coordination—impacting your ability to work, care for yourself, or enjoy daily life. Our team is here to help you regain those abilities and achieve greater independence. Stroke patients may benefit from speech and language therapy to recover communication and swallowing abilities.

Our Services

We offer a full range of outpatient occupational therapy services designed to improve physical function and daily living skills, including:

  • Pain and swelling management

  • Wound and scar care

  • Custom orthotic fabrication and splinting

  • Exercise and activity-based rehabilitation

  • Energy conservation techniques

  • Ergonomic training and healthy work habits

  • Training in assistive/adaptive devices (including prosthetics)

  • Evaluation of home environments for safety and accessibility

Therapy sessions are hands-on and personalized. Family members and caregivers are welcome to participate, as they often play a key role in supporting rehabilitation at home.

Assessment and Diagnosis

Your treatment begins with a comprehensive evaluation performed by our licensed occupational therapists in collaboration with your referring physician, surgeon, or pediatrician.

We begin with a one-on-one consultation to discuss your symptoms, challenges, and goals. Through observation and functional assessments, we analyze how your condition affects your ability to perform everyday tasks. Additional diagnostic testing (such as x-rays, MRI, or lab work) may be coordinated as needed to better understand your condition.

Personalized Treatment Plans

Our goal is to prevent further dysfunction, restore your abilities, and help you regain independence at work, home, or school. Your therapy may include:

  • Exercises to improve range of motion, strength, dexterity, and sensation

  • Joint protection techniques and adaptive strategies for dressing, cooking, or using technology

  • Fitting and training with prosthetics or orthotics to ensure comfort and effectiveness

  • Education on modifying activities and using devices to simplify daily routines safely

  •

Referrals and Provider Collaboration

We welcome referrals from physicians, caregivers, educators, and other healthcare providers. Our team will collaborate closely with your medical team and coordinate additional services as needed, such as:

  • Prescriptions for medications

  • Access to adaptive equipment

  • Referrals to physical therapy, speech-language pathology, or pain management

Insurance and Financial Assistance

Most major health insurance plans, including Medicare, cover occupational therapy services. If cost is a concern, we offer a financial assistance program to help ensure access to care. Our billing team can help verify your coverage.
